The Journey

6 days · Trekking

The Rongai Route is the only route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the north, close to the Kenyan border. It is quieter and drier than the southern routes, with a steady, gradual ascent through farmland, pine forest, moorland and alpine desert and a chance to spot colobus monkeys, antelope and sometimes elephant or buffalo on the first days. You summit via Gillman's Point and descend by the Marangu Route. This 6-day version is a faster itinerary; the 7-day version adds an acclimatization night and is recommended for a better chance of reaching the top.
