The Journey

6 days · Trekking

The Shira Route is very similar to the Lemosho Route but starts higher, at about 3,600 m, so it is not ideal for trekkers with little or no high-altitude experience. After joining the Lemosho trail at Shira 2 Camp it follows the Machame route via Lava Tower and Barranco, then summits from Barafu and descends via Mweka. It is seldom used, so the first two days are less crowded than on most routes.
